Volleyball is a popular sport played by men and women on teams. The object of the game is to score points by hitting a ball over a net. When a player hits the ball over the net the main goal is to place it in a specific spot so the other team cannot return the ball. A team scores a point when the other team is unable to return the ball over the net. There are several well-known volleyball players.

Popular male volleyball players

Steve Timmons was a very notable volleyball player. He won MVP in the Olympics in 1984. He led the United States to a gold medal victory. Another important male volleyball athlete is Ron Van Hagen. He is considered one of the all-time greatest volleyball players. He played over 52 tournaments and never placed lower than third. He set a tremendous amount of records and provided the groundwork to many aspiring volleyball players.

Famous female volleyball players

There are more popular female volleyball players than male ones. The most popular ones have impacted the game, set records and helped lead their team to numerous victories. Karch Kiraly is known because she has the most beach volleyball victories. Logan Tom is an all-around solid player. She won MVP for the NCAA in 2001 and helped her team in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Misty May Treanor was voted AVP for three consecutive years. She also holds the world record for most consecutive match victories. Other popular female volleyball players include Flo Hyman, Paula Weishoff and Kerri Walsh.
